Not much is known about Elizabeth's early life, but she was born and grew up in England.Īt some point, Elizabeth moved to the United States to work as an attaché for the UK Ministry of Defence, in Albany, New York. Indeed, following the defeat of the plan to destroy Portland and Jennifer's death, Elizabeth expresses remorse for her actions and wonders if it was all really worth it in the end. While fighting with Jadis, Jennifer states that her mother had lost her way and that she wasn't truly evil. Indeed, despite the deal putting Indira's life in the hands of the CRM as she becomes reliant on the treatment, Elizabeth kept her word that the deal was a secret between them and not something that she was doing to further the CRM's goals. Elizabeth admits that her main motivation is to prevent another family from going through what she and Jennifer suffered when Elizabeth's husband died. She also formed a non-aggression pact with the Perimeter instead of wiping them out and was happy to coexist alongside them, something that Jadis later listed as one of the things that Elizabeth was in trouble for.Įlizabeth has also shown genuine compassion for others, helping Indira get medical treatment with no strings attached out of a genuine concern for her life. Despite initially deciding to eliminate the Endlings, after being convinced that they aren't a threat, Elizabeth agrees to Jennifer's request to allow them to live at the facility, even " Elton" who was of no value to the CRM beyond being one of Hope's friends. Elizabeth justified those measures by stating that the brutality of their actions ensures that those under the Civic Republic's auspices can remain safe, as well as helping ensure humanity's survival, showing that she at least has a skewed moral compass.Įlizabeth cares deeply for her daughter, Jennifer Mallick, who she has placed great trust in as a spy for the Civic Republic within the Campus Colony, as well as ensuring that Hope Bennett survives her journey to the Civic Republic Research Facility.Īlthough willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the survival of humanity, Elizabeth has shown herself to be less rigid and extreme than many of the other CRM leaders such as Major General Beale and Jadis. Elizabeth firmly believes in the Civic Republic's cause, and has gone to great lengths to ensure that its goals are carried out, even considering the high amount of risks involved.ĭespite this however, Elizabeth has shown genuine regret and remorse for the brutal actions that she has taken on behalf of the Civic Republic, most notably the complete annihilation of the Campus Colony. Elizabeth is a powerful figure in the post-apocalyptic world, being part of a large organization, and exudes a high degree of charisma as a result. Pick up my sci-fi novels Herokiller and Herokiller 2, and read my first series, The Earthborn Trilogy, which is also on audiobook. I’m not sure when World Beyond returns, but when it does, I’ll be watching.įollow me on Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. It’s sort of weird there’s only ten episodes left in this purposefully limited series, but maybe that’s not a bad way to tell a story. This was a solid episode and I really like where we ended up after this full run of this season. They talk about not knowing “who she truly is” and I think a big reveal is coming next season in some capacity. How do you empirically measure someone’s smarts of abilities and divide them into “useful” or “not useful”? That seems like a flawed system with no shades of grey, although in Hope’s case, there are strong implications that she might be the daughter of someone special, some supergenius scientist or something, which gives her an elevated position at baseline. This system of course seems…somewhat arbitrary.
